| DIANA HOBSON |
| "All my paintings start with a title. It goes on a little post-it next to the stretched canvas. The next step is the first line, or character, done somewhat like choreography. If the character is graceful, the line will be graceful, imposing, imposing, etc. Then comes the first space they travel through, and the painting develops like a novel or a symphony. Everything means something, and anyone can figure it out if they only look with an inquiring mind. And there is a long way between the first concept and the finished piece." Diana Hobson's paintings have a strong presence, as the artist herself. Each of her paintings tells a poetic story hinted in their titles. Her use of shapes and colors make her canvases buzz with energy. Many of her paintings have a rhythmic quality about them, giving off a dramatic affect with the movement created by her brushstrokes. Diana Hobson was born in New York City. Her artistic inclination started at a young age. She attended Connecticut College for Women and Trinity University. From the Weisman Collection in Los Angeles to representing the city of Los Angeles in Japan, Diana Hobson's career spans over thirty years. Her most recent show was at the Denise Bibro Gallery In New York in 2008. |
