| EILEEN HASTINGS |
| Over the past decade, Eileen Hastings has been incorporating her life experiences and her many disciplines both academic and artistic into her work. In 1977, she received a dance scholarship to Stephen's College and then in 1984 pursued a B.A. in Philosophy from UCLA. She later received a degree from the Tao of Healing Arts in Los Angeles in Shiatsu therapy and became a practitioner of massage and physical therapy. All of Eileen's professional experiences became inextricably linked to her artistic vision. She went back to school to receive a degree in Fine Arts from Santa Monica College in 1999. With thirteen years as a physical therapist, she approaches her artwork in a similar manner to how she diagnosed her patients, seeking harmony and balance. Eileen has been showing her work throughout Los Angeles for the past eleven years in many group and solo shows. "My paintings are about our inner world. Based on my own human experience I see that there is a lot of change that occurs in life. With all those changes there can be a feeling of loss or a feeling of falling apart...But when you look at life as a whole the fluctuations are what make it so rich and beautiful. I believe that these concepts are what come through me and my paintings. The many pieces fit together in a balanced and beautiful way. Change is unavoidable in life. I believe we can simply change our perspective to reflect a new way of seeing the integrated and hopefully, authentic whole." |
